Every cue landed: the Rotary India Humanity Hero Award, presented live at the Centennial Summit 2020
Certain occasions transcend the category of “event”; they demand the stature of a legacy moment. Encore Events was entrusted with precisely that mandate: welcoming over 4,000 delegates from 32 countries, orchestrating more than 40 performing artists and delivering a production commensurate with the presence of some of the nation’s most distinguished dignitaries. Here’s how Encore Events brought the Rotary India Centennial Summit 2020 to life.
The Occasion
The summit commemorated 100 years of Rotary in India, convened at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata across three days in February 2020. This was no ordinary assembly. Among those in attendance were the Vice-President of India, the Governor of West Bengal, Union ministers, the Rotary International President and the incoming Rotary International President, alongside thousands of Rotarians from across the country and abroad. Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu delivered the keynote address, reflecting on themes of peace, rural development and philanthropy. A centennial of this magnitude is a momentous occasion, and Encore Events treated every detail with the care such significance demands.

Building the Space
The venue began as a 50,000 sq ft German hangar structure, an expansive, undefined canvas that Encore Events transformed into a setting worthy of a hundred-year milestone. The build encompassed staging, elaborate lighting design, panoramic LED walls capable of sustaining immersive visual storytelling and a layout engineered for the effortless movement of thousands of delegates across multiple days.
Every visual rendered on those screens, from an intricately crafted Rajasthani palace tableau to bespoke centennial branding, was conceived and sequenced by Encore Events to move in exact harmony with the live program.
Coordinating the Talent
The production assembled more than 40 artists under Encore Events’ direction: aerial performers, large-scale dance ensembles and featured soloists, each requiring coordinated scheduling, dedicated rehearsal time and impeccably precise technical cues. Delivering a single flawless performance is a craft unto itself. Coordinating more than 40 artists across multiple disciplines into one uninterrupted continuum of VIP welcomes, award presentations and high-energy performances is an altogether different feat, one built almost entirely on rigorous scheduling, rehearsal discipline and seamless coordination across every department involved.

Handling the Moments That Matter
An occasion of this stature is never entertainment in isolation; it is protocol, recognition and ceremony, unfolding live before a distinguished audience and a room saturated with press. Encore Events collaborated closely with the organizing committee to deliver defining moments such as the Rotary India Humanity Hero Award presentation and the “Old Number One” segment, honoring the century-old Rotary clubs that started it all. These are the moments that admit no margin for error. Every cue, every transition, every second had to land with absolute precision, delivered once and witnessed by an audience that mattered most.
What It Took
Three days. Over 4,000 delegates from 32 countries. More than 40 artists. A 50,000 sq ft space constructed entirely from the ground up by Encore Events. Dignitaries who demanded impeccable handling and a program that had to execute with unwavering precision from opening to close.
This is the kind of undertaking that tests every capability of a production team simultaneously: logistics, talent management, technical execution and protocol, all converging under one roof, all at once. It is also precisely the calibre of challenge Encore Events exists to command. Watch highlights from the summit here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hjl-0WW_wm0
