Surrounded by loved ones, a bride’s smile says it all
We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve sat down with a new client and heard different versions of, “Wait, I thought planners only worked with people who have unlimited budgets.” So let’s clear the air. Here are the myths we run into most and what’s actually true, based on real experience running events for clients who trusted us to get it right.
Myth #1: “Hiring a planner is only for people with huge budgets”
Not true. We work with clients across a wide range of budgets and our focus is always on getting the most value out of what you’re working with. That means knowing where to spend, where to hold back and how to put the pieces together so the event feels seamless, regardless of size.
Myth #2: “I can just do it all myself with Pinterest and a spreadsheet”

We love a good Pinterest board, truly. It’s a great place to start, but a vision board can’t tell you whether your ideas actually work together on the day: timing, layout, vendor coordination, all of it. That’s where expertise makes the difference.
Myth #3: “More vendors means a better event”
We get why people think this, but it’s usually the opposite that’s true. Every vendor you add is one more contract, one more person to coordinate, one more moving piece to keep in sync. For us, the number of vendors never matters — we can handle whatever the event demands. The one thing that truly matters is coordination. Whether it’s a handful of vendors or dozens, what makes an event come together smoothly is how well everyone is coordinated, not the length of the vendor list.
Myth #4: “You should book everything as early as possible”
Early is good, but there’s such a thing as too early — and that can box you in. We’ve seen clients lock in a florist a year out, only to change their whole color palette three months later and end up stuck. Some vendors, florists and rental companies especially, are better booked once the big pieces (venue, date, overall vision) are settled. It’s less about speed and more about sequencing.
Myth #5: “The planner just shows up on the day and tells people where to stand”
This isn’t accurate. We’re with you well before the day itself. Before any decision is made, we make sure to involve you every step of the way. Behind the scenes there are months of vendor calls, timeline building, budget planning and contract details, all built around clear communication so the final result exceeds what you had in mind.
Myth #6: “If something goes wrong, it’ll ruin the whole event”

Grainy, loud and full of joy.
Something always goes slightly sideways. A delivery runs late, the weather flips, a guest count changes last minute. That’s not a sign of a bad event. It’s just what happens. The real difference is whether there’s someone who can solve it quietly in the background while everyone else is enjoying themselves, none the wiser.
Myth #7: “Corporate events don’t need the same level of planning as weddings”
Honestly? Sometimes they need more. There’s stakeholder sign-off, brand guidelines to follow, AV that has to work perfectly, tight timelines and a room full of clients or leadership paying close attention to every detail. Corporate events simply demand a different kind of precision, not a lighter touch.
Myth #8: “You have to choose between the planner’s vision and your own”
This one’s a misunderstanding of what we’re actually there to do. We’re not trying to impose our own taste on your event. We’re trying to take your taste and figure out how to actually pull it off. The best events we’ve worked on always feel deeply personal to the people hosting them, because that’s the whole point.
Bottom line: Most of these myths come from picturing event planning as smaller, simpler, or more optional than it really is. Good planning doesn’t add stress or cost. It’s supposed to take it off your plate, so you can actually be present for the day you’re celebrating.
Thinking about your next event? We’d genuinely love to help — myth-free.
