Some celebrations stay with you long after the last guest leaves. This is one we’ll never forget.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taj Chia Kutir in Kurseong was set to host something<\/span><\/i>\u00a0 <\/span><\/i>remarkable: a son and daughter-in-law marking twenty-five years of marriage, celebrated in the same weekend as the mother-in-law and father-in-law completing fifty. Two generations. One family. One hillside full of tea gardens waiting to witness it all.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

We said yes before we even finished picturing it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Calm Before the Climb<\/b><\/p>\n

The morning we arrived, Kurseong looked exactly like the postcard. Mist sitting low over the tea gardens, the air cool enough to make you pull your jacket tighter, the Himalayas somewhere behind the clouds, teasing a glimpse now and then. Everyone on the team stood there for a second just taking it in. This was going to be beautiful.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then the sky changed its mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the Sky Said No<\/b><\/p>\n

The mountain weather turned almost as soon as we started setting up: sudden rain, thick fog, temperatures shifting without warning. Most of the functions had been planned for the open air, so the family could celebrate fifty years and twenty-five years surrounded by the tea gardens. Now the weather had other ideas and the family was arriving in a few hours expecting the celebration they’d imagined.<\/span><\/p>\n

So we did what you do when the weather won’t listen. We adjusted. Team Encore watched the clouds, reworked the layout and found ways to tuck a tarp in without ruining the view, all at once. Nobody stood around debating it. We just kept moving, checking the sky again every twenty minutes to stay one step ahead of it, because Team Encore was determined to give this family the celebration they had pictured, despite the weather.<\/span><\/p>\n

Carrying the Celebration, One Step at a Time<\/b><\/p>\n

If the weather was the first test, Kurseong’s roads were the second and just as unforgiving.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you’ve never driven up to Kurseong, picture this: narrow lanes curling around the hillside, steep enough to slow every vehicle to a crawl, too narrow for anything but small loads moving one at a time. Every single container we’d brought (the decor, the equipment, everything the celebration needed) had to go up that hill one at a time. No shortcuts. No bulk loads. Just trip after trip, careful steps on the wet stone, arms full.<\/span><\/p>\n

Somebody would carry a piece up, come back down, grab the next one and go again. Over and over. We just kept going, one trip after another.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Moment It All Came Together<\/b><\/p>\n

By the time the first function began, you would never have guessed what it took to get there.<\/span><\/p>\n

The couple walked in and saw the tea gardens glowing softly through the last bit of mist. The parents, celebrating fifty years together, sat surrounded by family in a setting that looked like it had been waiting for them their whole lives. Nobody in that crowd knew about the hours of climbing, the soaked shoes, the quiet glances at the sky between courses. They just saw a celebration that felt effortless.<\/span><\/p>\n

That’s the part that gets us every time. A group of people looked at bad weather and worse roads and decided this family’s celebration was going to shine anyway.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why This One Stays With Us<\/b><\/p>\n

We climbed for this one. We showed up for this one. And somewhere between the fog and one more trip up that hill, we stopped seeing it as a job and just saw a family we were determined to give a celebration to remember.<\/span><\/p>\n
